“The Hokie™ Way” Welcomes A New Year With The Results Of A Matching Campaign And New Community Partnerships

Non-profit concluded 2022 raising over $600,000 in funds to support the promotion of worthy charitable causes via the use of Virginia Tech student-athletes’ NIL

[Blacksburg, VA, January 24, 2023] The Hokie Way, an independent non-profit organization that creates active engagements for Virginia Tech student-athletes with charitable goals, is kicking off the year with some major successes — and big news.

The Hokie Way, which launched in July, received 501(c)(3) status for charitable giving in November. Thanks to an anonymous donor, contributions to The Hokie Way were matched through the end of 2022, helping the non-profit raise up to an additional $300,000 in funds to support the promotion of worthy charitable causes via the use of VT student-athletes’ Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL).

“We’re proud to share that over 550 Virginia Tech supporters contributed donations during the December campaign,” said Jim Pearman, Treasurer of The Hokie Way Board of Directors. “With the matching commitment, total contributions totaled more than $600,000.”

The contributions from Hokie fans will impact local charities through NIL agreements made with Virginia Tech student-athletes. Charities partnering with The Hokie Way include:

Feeding Southwest Virginia

Special Olympics of the New River Valley

Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia

The Life Ring Foundation

“The response and involvement of Hokie fans throughout the matching campaign was incredible,” said Jim Petrine, President of The Hokie Way Board of Directors. “The funds raised are going to have a big impact on local charities, as well as VT student-athletes. I’m really excited to share with the Hokie Nation the difference they will make as a result of their generosity. A very special thank you to all who participated.”
