[Blacksburg, VA, September 5, 2023] The Hokie Way, an independent 501(c)(3) organization, is excited to announce that its “Countdown to Kickoff Donation Match” campaign was a huge success. Generous donors pledged to match up to $250,000 in donations received from August 1 - September 2. The organization received $265,495 in donations during the campaign, surpassing its goal and ultimately resulting in $515,495 in funding.

“Once again, Hokie Nation proved itself to be incredible,” said Matthew Sams, Director of Operations for The Hokie Way. “Nearly 800 Hokies from over 40 states and multiple countries donated during this campaign, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their generosity and support. It will make a difference for both our charitable partners and Virginia Tech student-athletes.”

Born in the spirit of Ut Prosim (“That I May Serve”), The Hokie Way’s mission is to create opportunities for Virginia Tech student-athletes to leverage their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in support of charitable organizations. 

The Hokie Way currently partners with eight charitable organizations, and the recent donation drive will enhance engagement opportunities.

“This campaign shows how much Hokies care about making a difference,” said Jim Petrine, President of The Hokie Way Board of Directors. “We were tracking a bit short as the campaign wound down but a large gift at the last minute put us over the top. It was an opportunity to make a difference for nonprofits, our communities, and student-athletes - and each donor went above and beyond to answer the call.”
